An update on my wood boiler. This is showing the wood I have packed in and the new valve to stop the thermosiphon during the summer months or when the fire isn’t going. Stopping the flow of water there limits the electricity wasted which radiates through the copper to the basement.
If there isn’t a fire in the furnace, the thermosiphon actually goes in reverse and starts actively cooling the hot water in the tank that I’m heating with electricity. So in terms of saving month, this pays for itself real quick and its something I never put in originally of course.
