The French Press Experience

The French Press Experience

I’ve had french press coffee before, my dad uses it often. Hes used a few different brewing methods also including regular drip coffee maker and perculator. French Press is I think the current choice. I decided to give it a try myself, in my own house. I’ve had pressed coffee before but never tried anything other then a drip maker. I went to Value Village in Charlottetown to look for, among other things, a french press (those other things were: popcorn maker – for coffee roasting, coffee grinder, and any other cool...

Theistic Evolutionists are deluded

Here is a comment by Richard Dawkins on theistic evolution. Makes total sense to me. Dawkins isn’t stupid by any stretch. I think more Christians need to investigate creation more and understand it and even the apparent contradictions and go looking for answers. If you don’t believe in creation but call yourself a christian, I think there is a large part of Gods story that you’re missing. The evidence is there and honestly in large amounts, very compelling and conforms to the scientific process actually. Evolution does...

Frozen River and a cold night

Frozen River and a cold night

Here are some images of our frozen river, the Wheatley River. Its mid February and its -20 or so.  Today its -6 and the ice is all but melted unfortunately.  I was hoping to do some skating on it, and maybe push a puck around. No such luck. The salt water definitely lowers the freezing point. Have a gander: Slide Show + -Full Screen   We had a few cool -20 nights but little to no wind so it wasn’t too bad at all. And now -6 is like nothing, though if the wind starts blowing, even +3 feels cold in this...

Coffee Pot Cleansing

Coffee Pot Cleansing

This morning I looked in our coffee pot and it was black with coffee oils and varnish. I had been thinking of cleaning it for a while and did try vinegar but it didn’t really do much to the varnish. Great for mineral deposits and such from hard water, but didn’t really work on the coffee varnish in the bottom of the pot. And that varnish smells and is just generally gross. Every coffee pot has it, especially if you haven’t cleaned yours back down to the stainless steel (in our case we have a stainless steel...

All the wrong ways

All the wrong ways

So I was fixing my broken lawn tractor axle and I learned a few things. First the story a bit. I was using my tractor for mowing,  plowing, grading, hauling lumber etc. One cold day I loaded the tractor and trailer (4×8) with wood and popped the clutch on it. Heard a crack, but it was still going and then drove over a snow bank at which point it finally gave out, axle split in two, transmission guts (read: gears of all shapes and sizes) spilled out. The first order of business was trying to find a replacement, this took a while as...

The Lost Art Of Everything

The Lost Art Of Everything

I’ve blogged and ranted on such things before but I’m still and regularly amazed at the things in society we see as hobbiest stuff, or only for the real connoisseur.  What am I talking about? Basic stuff, like fixing your car. How many know the basics of oil and spark plug changes? How many actually check their tire pressure and ensure their fluids are topped up (without the prompting of the idiot lights on the dash)? Or baking bread, it used to be something everyone did every day, that was how they got their bread. Or collecting...

The snow finally cometh.

The snow finally cometh.

We’ve finally gotten 4 or 5 straight days of sub zero temps and some snow to go along with it so we actually have a bit of a winter here now (see pic). Whats the sad part? Well, I broke my lawn tractor a while back so I can’t use it to push the snow around and let me tell you, its a lot less fun to do so manually :/ Now I’m looking out for either another tractor or a tranny for mine. What would I REALLY like?? I’d REALLY like a cub cadet tractor with blade, and there IS one on usedpei right now! Almost my dream...

Bible Prophecy Updates

I’ve blogged about this guy before, Steve Hadley, he is a pastor in Nevada.  I like his teaching style and its exciting to listen to him for any of his sermons really. He regularly does prophecy updates here: http://www.harvestreno.org/messages.asp Unfortunately they aren’t youtube or something easily embed-able, I’ve been after him to change that. Regardless, they are excellent and really good for people new to bible prophecy as well. Check him out, browse through his list of sermons. Not iPad compatible either so you will...

Catholics and sacred spaces

Catholics and sacred spaces

Tonight was the ecumenical service, held at one of the local Ch’town catholic churches. Its a new building, oddly arranged but thats another story. What I thought as I stood there in service tonight looking at the statues of Mary and Christ and the burning prayer candles is that the more liturgical denominations create better ‘sacred spaces’. The ones where you can walk in mid-week, find a place to yourself in front of Mary  or Jesus (not that i believe we should pray in front of Mary or that she has any significance...
