The Eclectic Blogger

Lindsey commented on my blogging style 2 weeks ago, she called it eclectic. Adjective: Deriving ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources. Noun: A person who derives ideas, style, or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.     I take this as a complement. One of the things I always wanted to be was a good conversationalist with people I didn’t know, not necessarily a good small talker, but one who could speak intelligently about a wide range of subjects. Why? Well cause my dad could do that. I was always fascinated by the different people he would talk to on the street or church or wherever about ANYTHING. He could talk to blue collar folk, white collar, he could talk polictics, car...

Showing Integrity

(NKJV) Titus 2:6 Likewise, exhort the young men to be sober-minded,(NKJV) Titus 2:7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,(NKJV) Titus 2:8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you. So many of us are far from this standard. Did you know that God knows everything you look at and everything you do? He knows what videos and images you look at on facebook, from the boring funny photos to the slightly more sketchy photos / videos posted by your acquaintances that you hardly ever otherwise interact with. Or maybe you have a close friend who just posts crazy stuff that God most likely would not be amused with?? Of...

Daylight Savings Time

Daylight saving time (DST)—also summer time in several countries[1][2][3][4][5][6] including in British English and European official terminology (see Terminology)—is the practice of temporarily advancing clocks during the summertime so that afternoons have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn.[7] Modern DST was first proposed in 1895 by George Vernon Hudson.[8] Many countries have used it since then; details vary by location and change occasionally. So I get DST, allows more sun in the afternoon and therefore evening then ‘normal’. I get that. But why do we need it? I think we should shift ’9 to 5′ to the average sun up and...

Breadmaking Milestones

»Posted by on Nov 3, 2011 in General | 1 comment

We bought our horizontal breadmaker at the end of June this year. I figure a little less then a loaf a day. We’ve made likely somewhere between 80 and 100 loafs of bread with the maker. So far so good. In terms of baking fresh bread, its kinda in our daily routine now, mine anyways to make it… The maker itself is basically as good as it ever was, the pan though is showing signs of wear. The non stick coating seems to be wearing off, and circles show in the bottom where the paddles spin around under load. Also, one of the paddle bearings or shaft anyways is not sealed anymore. This has happened to me on previous machines. The seal leaks, then the shaft starts getting corroded and locking up so it doesn’t spin anymore so I always have to check...

Its cool and rainy

Is this finally the weathe we ‘should’ be getting? I think its the weather Ontario has been getting. The pic is of our our north window, the leaves are blowing around on the tree, the wood is hopefully somewhat more dry under the blue tarp and you can see the reflection of our dining room lights in the window. This window overlooks the river as well behind the tree. We’ve really had amazing weather the last month or so. Today we’re getting our final 4 cords of wood delivered, took a while, but there should be a good number of days of cutting left before the snow really begins to fall. The only problem is the wet ground for transporting the firewood. In total we will have had 12 cords delivered. In theory we should have wood left over, a...
