Solar Hot Air – Project #2

»Posted by on Oct 22, 2009 in General | 0 comments

Here is the second project in my renewable energy ‘series’. I enjoy making mini scalable examples of how one can harness nature, the sun, wind, etc to power or otherwise provide conveniences to life that we would otherwise get / power from the electrical grid or by burning fossil fuels. This particular project is solar hot air. Its basically a cardboard box, lined with aluminum foil, stacked with pop cans that have had their bottoms cut off (for airflow vertically), spray painted flat black with high temp bbq paint. In direct sunlight, the cans heat up, transferring the suns energy to the air inside them. I then put a solar panel on top ($10 to $20 from Canadian tire, 10 if you can find them on sale) that powers a 1 watt fan (this was expensive, $16...

My Fickle Mind

EDIT: I’m gonna add to my pros and cons list some more… there are other features that I don’t have on my A2 I’ve been researching and researching the D90. Its been on my mind for quite awhile. While it is an incredible still photo camera / SLR, i’m having trouble with the lack of some of the features in my A2. AND, my A2 can do most of the things the D90 can. The bigs ones are pulling focus with manual focusing (yes, the A2 can do that) and the shallow depth of field (the A2 has this as well). The Pros: Hey, its a new toy Incredible still photos High def video @ 720P interchangeable lenses Bulb exposure (my A2 only does 30 seconds max which isn’t ideal for really cool star shots) Low light capabilities Flash Range The...

Here is my moon challenge for Aimee and her new Rebel XSI. This is a pic from my A2 taken at, approximately 280 mm (10x optical) with the help of a 1.5x telephoto lens. Used a tripod of course as well. Twas a clear cold night. I really should try to take some raw shots and see if I can get more clarity. My next hobby might be attempting to mate the A2 with a telescope. So Aimee, you should try getting a good moon shot!

Water Colours

Heres my art exposition of WATER, H2O. This was taken in ,…. get ready for it, its not a real romantic place to take photos, no fancy studio,… its our kitchen sink! Ever changing water droplets combine and separate making a light show and an infinite variety of shapes and sizes. God is pretty good at making cool stuff eh, the most we as humans can do is try to emulate it or just observe it. Beauty in Gods creation is one thing I am trying to see more.  The more you look at the intricacy, and complexity of these little things, the more you appreciate the big things we take for granted.  Check out my water colours album below for more of the shots I took. They were taken with flash to capture a moment in time with my A2....

Said I would upload another video. Here is a short one from our wedding day. This is before we got married, before Lindsey was even at the church, people were just arriving and my Grandpa was sitting in front playing some old hymns. So some memories caught on my digicam from our wedding.   embedded by Embedded Video Download Video
