The age of digital bibles
Are digital bibles any less the Word of God? As I was doing my daily morning reading (and email of thoughts to Lindsey and a friend, which kinda acts like accountability) I wondered where my ‘real’ bible was. My paper and leather bound bible, the thing where you turn real pages. Does God care whether we read a bible on a mobile device or whether we hold a bound bible, or maybe he prefers we read it from a leather scroll, or better yet, a stone tablet? Does it matter? I don’t think God cares HOW we learn about Him and how we get into His Word. I think the argument is kinda like drinking. Does it glorify God to do it? Does it act as a stumbling block to anybody? Example, if I’m reading my bible on my ipad every morning, does Arden know...
Quiet Christmas
This year we had a white Christmas which was excellent (see pic). We got it a few days before Christmas. I’ve had lots of opportunity to get out on my lawn tractor and push snow around. I love using my gas powered tools! I always enjoyed shoveling snow. Its a fresh experience every time, fresh cold air, different snow to move, different obstacles to get around, different types of snow, different times of day. Even better if its snowing out WHILE pushing the snow around. Its just a relaxing sort of thing yet it burns a few calories too. I’ve eaten SO much already, mostly sugar :/ Too much. Today, Boxing day as I write this, is going to be a lazy day where I just stoke the fire – though I should do a load of firewood. Mostly for my...
Reaction to Hitchens Death
Being an outspoken atheist pretty much ensures controversy and conversation on ones death, namely between the atheist camp and the christian one. I’ve seen various reactions on twitter from well known pastors, some with a tinge of ‘wink and nod and i told ya so’ and others with the the ‘christianese’ response of grace and politeness. I am more outspoken FOR Christianity, maybe on the side of detriment, its hard to say. I waver between being the loving kind, never say anything that might be convicting christian and spewing out fire and brimstone speech and saying ‘I told you so’. I have to bite my tongue in most cases. Usually because my speech either doesn’t really help anybody, or because it can / will...
Islam VS Christianity
Since Christianity and Islam are the 2 largest religions (where Christians are still leading as the largest by adherents), I thought I would step outside the Christian bubble and see what Islam is. That is, apart from what Christians say. Here is a quick run down of the similarities / differences, now not sure who the author of this was, regardless, it looks pretty even keeled: http://www.religionfacts.com/christianity/charts/christianity_islam.htmThe below is just a subsection of the items on the link: First column is the comparison item, second is Christianity, 3rd is Islam ultimate reality one creator God one creator God nature of God Trinity – one substance, three...
Politically Incorrect
I love the bible. One reason I guess is cause I can be rebelious in nature I love that the bible is hardcore, and subversive. No pulled punches, no politically correct speech here. God doesn’t need politians that can ‘smooth the waters’ with gentle talking points that will ‘resonate’ with many people groups. God needs no speech writers to cross check for slander, or racism, or jokes that could be considered off colour. He just says stuff, straight up. Subversive – adjective1.Also, sub·ver·sion·ar·y [suhb-vur-zhuh-ner-ee, -shuh-] Show IPA. tending to subvert or advocating subversion, especially in an attempt to overthrow or cause the destruction of an established or legally constituted government. Here are Gods words,...
