The Lost Art Of Everything

»Posted by on Feb 5, 2012 in General | 2 comments

I’ve blogged and ranted on such things before but I’m still and regularly amazed at the things in society we see as hobbiest stuff, or only for the real connoisseur.  What am I talking about? Basic stuff, like fixing your car. How many know the basics of oil and spark plug changes? How many actually check their tire pressure and ensure their fluids are topped up (without the prompting of the idiot lights on the dash)? Or baking bread, it used to be something everyone did every day, that was how they got their bread. Or collecting eggs from their chickens. Even coffee roasting, the luxury with coffee isn’t in roasting it yourself, though it is a better tasting result, the luxury is in buying it already roasted in convenient ‘fresh...

The snow finally cometh.

»Posted by on Feb 3, 2012 in General | 0 comments

We’ve finally gotten 4 or 5 straight days of sub zero temps and some snow to go along with it so we actually have a bit of a winter here now (see pic). Whats the sad part? Well, I broke my lawn tractor a while back so I can’t use it to push the snow around and let me tell you, its a lot less fun to do so manually :/ Now I’m looking out for either another tractor or a tranny for mine. What would I REALLY like?? I’d REALLY like a cub cadet tractor with blade, and there IS one on usedpei right now! Almost my dream setup  Problem is its $1800. Now, I *could* sell my seadoo or something but I hate to do that I think I would regret it in the summer time! The one on usedpei is the ideal setup, with the mower deck and blade ready...

Downhill

This year playing hockey I’ve noticed that I wasn’t as good as I used to be, though I was never a superstar or anything but I was fast. Now not so much. I realize I’m on the down side of the hill now. Most of it comes from my physical fitness which isn’t the best since I sit behind a desk 8 hours a day. I just don’t get the exercise anymore to stay in shape. I think 10 years ago, you didn’t really need to exercise much, you were just in shape.. No need to exercise, but as you grow older, you start getting into the 9 to 5 work week and such I think it just adds up to where you aren’t naturally full of energy and strength anymore and you aren’t exercising, cause you never did (me) so you just start getting slower. I...

The problem with urban composting

»Posted by on Jan 21, 2012 in General | 0 comments

Let me define, urban composting is as I define it, putting compostable stuff to a great big green bin that the municipality takes away which is part of your taxes. 1) I’m kinda against the separation of compostable material and non compostable material. Why? We end up with a GREAT compost pile, but we also end up with a garbage pile which has plastic bags and such which compost that much more slowly because there is no combined compostable material.  Basically I think it harms what would otherwise be a better rate of decomposition for things like bags, metals, plastics (yes they do all componst eventually). Instead we keep out the compostable material and slow the process of their own decomposition. Now.. there are smarter people then I creating...

The end of the web

»Posted by on Jan 19, 2012 in General | 0 comments

No, i’m not talking about SOPA. Sometimes in the morning I look at my RSS feeds and news apps and nothing really changes. I kinda expect new exciting news on some front daily. Sometimes I just find myself trying to figure out what to google next, what interesting thing can I look up? Is there another website on prophecy or coffee, or some other hobby of mine that I haven’t see yet? Maybe an incredible website full of informations and vids that for some reason I hadn’t spotted up till now? Alas, often times I just feel like I’ve seen all there is to see on a subject and I”m slightly disappointed. It may be that that is a sign I’m spending TOO much time on my ipad in the morning sipping my coffee when I really could /...
